The purpose of our platform is to identify strategies to improve and enhance your English speaking skills.

If we contrast the process we used to learn our mother tongue against a second language we will see that the process is very different.  For example, the mother tongue is formed through the process of

listen > speak > read > write

But when we learn English (or Spanish in my case) we usually change the process towards

read > write > speak > listen

The problem is very clear – that we put “Listen” at the end. That is why the most typical challenges I hear from Spanish people are listening and speaking.

There is a very simple explanation for this – study. As adults we change our instincts for learning. We always try to intellectualize.  Learning English is not an intellectual subject that has to be studied only with books and grammar rules. Learning is not synonymous with studying, and English is not an exam, it is an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy cultures and experience life.

If I only hear, I forget

but if I hear and see, I remember

However, if I hear, see and do, I understand.

 Confucius

We learned our mother tongue by interacting with others, through activities and actions, where our attention was always focused on action and not on language learning. By performing activities we have developed our skills to speak and communicate.

Students who want to progress and improve their level need to refocus their attention, from English books to activities they like, such as sports, music, etc.  Since when you concentrate more on the activity or action than the language the results in learning the language are deeper and more natural.
